88 Eyeshadow Palette Offers a Rainbow of Colors

If you've been in the market for new eyeshadows and don't want to spend a lot of money on colors you don't think you would use very often, then the 88 eyeshadow palettes just may be for you.

These skittle-looking eyeshadows offer excellent color payoff and surprisingly last quite a long time, despite their small size.

The colors range from soft neutrals to vivid brights and although most of the shadows are a matte finish, there are a few shimmer shades thrown in. Companies also offer an 88 eyeshadow palette in all shimmer eyeshadows, but I prefer this matte palette because it gives a variety of both matte and shimmer, while the shimmer palette is strictly shimmer shades.

The 88 Eyeshadow Palette can be found at the Coastal Scents Website or you can try the eBay seller abestlife who sells the palettes at great prices and offers low shipping rates. They generally run around $21.95.

Give them a try!

Get Bronzed and Beautiful for Only $35!

This my friends, is the deal of the century. Ok, slight exaggeration. But if you happen to be a Benefit Cosmetics fan or have been wanting to try their products then pick up the Benefit Legally Bronze set for...get ready...ONLY $35! I cannot stress enough how fantastic of a deal this is.

While peruving the aisles of Sephora the other day I spotted this little package out of the corner of my eye and when I read this label on the front of the package:
I flipped out! I found a sales assistant and eagerly asked, " Is this really only $35?!" and when she responded with a cheerful yes, I wanted to squeel with excitement.

The Legally Bronze set comes with Hoola Bronzer (normally $28), High Beam Highlighter (normally $24), Gilded Eye Pencil (normally $20) and a BadGal Mascara in brown (normally $19)...and all FULL SIZE! What a steal!

All this for only $35! This isn't one of those rip off sets that come with several good products from a brand but are all trial size. These are actually all full size products. So don't walk, RUN over to your nearest Sephora, as this set is exclusive to them and in limited supply. Or you can purchase it online on the Sephora Website.

Just thought I would share my excitement with all of you and pass on the savings!

NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils pack some major color

If you've never tried a NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil before, I highly suggest you run over to Ulta to buy one; at LEAST one. These colorful crayon-like pencils make the most amazing bases underneath eyeshadows with corresponding shades. And at around $4 each, why wouldn't you want to try them?

I take favor to these over MAC Shadesticks and Paint Pots for their convenience and excellent color payoff. They are so easy to use as you can either draw them directly on the eye lid (and even underneath the lower lashline), or you can stroke a brush over the pencil to apply the color with an eyeshadow brush.

The pencils come in a variety of colors and of all the colors they have, I would highly suggest you pick up the one in Milk, a creamy opaque white. Use this under any eyeshadow color to make eyeshadows blend easier and give a blended "airbrushed" look to the eyelid. It also brightens the eye and makes all eyeshadow colors really pop.

If you tend to have greasy eyelids or oily skin, I would recommend putting a neutral base underneath the pencils such as Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Because the pencils have a thick creamy consistency they may crease on those with oilier lids.

Eventually I would like to buy them in every shade, but here is my current NYX Jumbo Pencil collection:

Swatches from left to right: Purple, Horse Raddish, Pots and Pans, Milk, Gold, Hot Pink

NYX Jumbo Pencils can be purchased at any Ulta location or you can purchase them from Cherry Culture online, which are available for a little bit less than what Ulta charges.

Product Love and Hate #2

Love:
  1. MAC 224 Brush- While this brush has always been a favorite of mine for blending eyeshadows, it recently became a new favorite for concealer. This brush buffs and blends out concealer way better than any other concealer brush I've used.
  2. MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder- This pink-hued shimmer powder is a perfect glow in a compact. Re-released with the Give Me Liberty of London collection, this is hands down the best item from the collection. I add a bit of it on my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose and it adds an instant brightening glow.
  3. Bare Minerals Multi-Tasking Face in Well Rested- This eye brightener works wonders for dark circles. I apply it under my eyes after concealer and it really brightens up my eyes.
  4. MAC Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation- I'm loving this lightweight portable foundation compact because it goes on skin smoothly giving me an even complexion. It's my go to foundation when I'm in a hurry.
  5. Matrix Vavoom Freezing Spray- I never have any luck with hairsprays and it's almost impossible to find a good holding spray that will hold my curls without making my hair stiff. This spray does just what I want it to. It's officially my favorite hairspray.
  6. MAC Brownborder Technakohl Liner- I am a huge fan of the Technakohl liners because they go on easily and they stay put. I don't always want the harsh line of a black liner for daytime makeup, so this brown eyeliner comes in handy for light makeup days.
Hate:
  1. MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline- I got this eyeliner because of all the hype it was getting for being extra dark and black. And while it is very black, this stuff smudges like crazy. By the end of the day, I have more of this stuff under my eyes than actually on my lashline, even when eyeshadow is smudged on top of the liner.
  2. In the Gallery Eyeshadow Quad- This was purchased with the Makeup Art Cosmetics collection thinking I would use the purple shadows. But I have only used it once since I got it because the shadows are way to chalky with very little color payoff. Big disappointment.
  3. Jergens Natural Glow Daily Mositurizer for medium to dark skintones- This stuff doesn't work, period. I've been using daily and I'm not any tanner. Don't waste your money on this.
  4. ELF Bronzing Brush- Virtually useless. Too stiff, has an awkward shape and isn't full enough to pick up enough product. Even though it was only $1, I still wouldn't recommend it.
  5. Chanel #16 Le Pinceau Teint Foundation Brush- While this brush is great for putting on foundation, it is almost impossible to clean. This has become a bacteria lurking face brush which I now refuse to use. For the price of this thing, you'd thing it would be easier to clean and care for.
  6. Bare Minerals Flawless Application Face Brush- Ouch. This brush actually hurts when I use it on my face. The bristles are way too stiff and the brush isn't soft at all. This is a straight to trash brush for me.

Tutorial: How to Press Pigments

Turn a messy loose pigment into an easy pressed eyeshadow!

I love pigments, but I don't ever have time for the mess. It just makes things frustrating when I get ready in the morning. So the easiest solution is to press them and have them in eyeshadow pan form. Same pigment, less mess. This is also a useful way to fix a broken eyeshadow as it is done with the same process. Many people are not aware of how this is done, so I thought I'd share my way of pressing pigments. Here is a simple pigment pressing tutorial done with MAC Crush Metal Pigments Stacked 1! and Stacked 2!.

You will need:
  1. Rubbing Alcohol (put into a smaller container- travel containers or visine eye droppers will do)
  2. Pigments (or broken eyeshadow-which will need to be crushed to a pigment form)
  3. Eyeshadow pans (I purchase mine here)
  4. Paper towels
  5. Quarters (2-3 for every eyeshadow pan you will be using)
  6. Scrap fabric in small squares (denim or heavy fabrics work well- i used an old t-shirt)
  7. Heavy books (such as textbooks or encyclopedias)
  8. Thin magnets (available here, or at craft stores in small squares)
  9. Eyeshadow palette (MAC palettes or you can buy a no-name empty one here)
  10. Small mixing container (small paper cups or small lids from bottles work well)
Step 1.
Place several paper towels down wherever you work space is because this stuff gets messy. Once you have your work station set up, pour 3 small drops of rubbing alcohol into your mixing container. Then with the plastic spoon, pour about 3/4 of a teaspoon of pigment into the mixing container. Grab the plastic knife and carefully mix the pigment and alcohol together until it reaches an icing-like consistency. If the mixture is still too powdery with pigment, pour in another small drop of alcohol and mix in. Or, if it is too liquidy pour in another small scoop of pigment. It should look like this in your mixing container:

Step 2.
Next, scoop out the mixture (the plastic knife works best for this) and plop it into the eyeshadow pan. Don't worry about smoothing it out or around to fill the pan; that would get way too messy. The next step will take care of flattening it out.

Step 3.
Then pick up the eyeshadow pan about an inch or two high and LIGHTLY drop it back onto your work surface. Do this a couple of times; pick it up and lightly drop it. Make sure when you drop it it lands on the back flat surface; do not let it turn over or all of your mixture will fall out. Doing this helps the mixture smooth itself out in the eyeshadow pan. Pick it up and drop it as many times as needed until the inside of the pan is completely filled. It should look like this after a drop or two:

You are finished with this step once it looks like this:

Step 4.
Leave the filled eyeshadow pans in a safe place to dry overnight. Once they are dry the next step can occur. Here are the eyeshadows completely dry and ready to be pressed:

Step 5.
When the eyeshadows are completely dry take a sqaure of scrap fabric and place it over the eyeshadow pan. Take a quarter and place over the piece of fabric (the quarter fits perfectly in the inside of the eyeshadow pan) and press down, HARD. Put pressure onto the quarter with your thumb, hand or even pick it up and use more strength to press the quarter into the pan. Do this to all of your eyeshadows.

Step 6.
Once you have manually pressed all the eyeshadows, place the pieces of fabric over each eyeshadow and cluster all the eyeshadows together. Once you have them covered with the squares of fabric, place a stack of 2 (or 3- whatever you have) quarters on top of each eyeshadow. This is what it should look like:

 Step 7.
Place a large stack of very heavy books on top of the cluster of eyeshadows (with the fabric and quarters too). I used three heavy books and then placed my laptop on top of that. Leave it for a couple of hours. This will fully press the shadows and lock in the pigment so that it is properly pressed. Once you remove the books, the eyeshadow should be complete and look like this:

Step 8.
Next is to attach the magnets to the eyeshadow pans. If you already have precut magnet circles, then you can skip this next step. My magents are small squares, so I cut off the corners and turn them into circles. The magents I purchased are also sticky on the back, so I didn't need any glue. But if you have non-sticker magnets, then glue the magents to the back of the eyeshadow pan with super glue or craft glue. Whichever you have on hand. Here is what the magnet should look like on the back of the pan:

Step 9.
You can label your eyeshadow with small circle stickers and write the name of the color on back, if you would like to. then, once your eyeshadows are completely finished, pop them into your eyeshadow palette and you're done!

Good til' the last drop

My absolute favorite perfume is Marc Jacobs Daisy and I use it on a daily basis. It has such a fresh, warm and feminine smell containing violet leaves, strawberry, ruby red grapefruit, gardenia, jasmine, vanilla and white woods. I hate perfumes that leave overwhelming smells, but Daisy is a very light scent. I've already gone through my third bottle!

My Top 5 MAC Lipsticks

MAC has dozens of lipstick colors and although I'm always buying new shades, there are five lipsticks that I always go back to. Here are my top five MAC Lipsticks:

From left to right: Viva Glam V, Blankety, Angel, Russian Red, Show Orchid

  1. Viva Glam V. This is one of those "your lips but better" colors since it is a sheer, natural wash of color with a bit of shimmer. It is the perfect everyday lipstick shade and works on just about every skin tone. It gives your lips instance shine and is even moisturizing, which is completely different from MAC lipsticks since many of them tend to be on the drying side. I use this lipstick a lot over other lipsticks to add a hint of shimmer and keep my lips moisturized. I go through this stuff like crazy.
  2. Blankety. A perfect nude lip that won't wash you out. Many nude lipsticks make me look sickly so I typically need more color on my lips. But with Blankety, my lips can be nude and it looks natural. I really love this color.
  3. Angel. Kim Kardashian claimed that this is her go to lipstick and its no wonder with its perect nude shade and just a hint of pink. This is also a great everyday shade that works with any makeup look, from day to night. It looks incredible under any nude or light pink lipgloss. Kim pairs it with NARS' Turkish Delight lipgloss for her everyday look.
  4. Russian Red. Not much to say except the perfect red lip. This blue-based red looks great on tan and fair skin tones and can vamp up any makeup look. Think Gwen Stefani's empeccable red lips. MAC has a couple of red lipstick shades, but this matte red is my absolute favorite because you only need about two swipes of this color and your lips are painted a heavy red. And thank goodness for the great color payoff because two much of this matte lipstick can seriously dry out your lips. So just two swipes work and then lightly pat on some lip balm or chapstick to prevent your from lips drying out.
  5. Show Orchid. Although re-released in February with MAC's Riveting collection, this lipstick is permanently available through the MAC Pro Website and stores. I love this lipstick because it sticks out from every lipstick I own. This shade is a SUPER bright fuchsia that packs some major color payoff. Just like Russian Red, only a swipe or two over the lips is needed to get a strong bold lip. It also works great paired with MAC's Lip Pencil in Magenta and topped of with Lipglass in True Babe, a limited edition Lipglass released with the Riveting collection.

Liberty of London is taking over the States!

The British label, Liberty of London, is in collaboration with both MAC and Target this month. I don't know if it was planned to have the two companies simultaneously launch them the same month or not, but either way I was excited.

The MAC Give Me Liberty of London Collection had adorable packaging, but nothing extremely worth while in products. I wasn't that impressed with the collection in general, but there were a few products that deserve some recognition.

I only purchased the Shell Pearl Beauty Powder and Petals and Peacocks Lipstick. I really love both of them, despite the fact that the lipstick can easily be duped.

Shell Pearl Beauty Powder is a gorgeous shimmery light pink powder that is very sheer in color and works as a great highlighter that doesn't leave too much shimmer on the cheekbones. It looks beautiful paired with light pink blushes.

The Lipstick in Petals and Peacocks is a very bright magenta lip color and is the standout of the collection. However, once I brought this home and opened up the box I realized that this color looks very, VERY similar to Show Orchid Lipstick. The colors are almost identical (see the side-by-side comparison below). So if you already have the lipstick in Show Orchid (PRO and re-released with MAC Riveting Collection) then don't bother getting Petals and Peacocks, unless you just want it for the cute packaging. So a little disappointing, but still a very pretty color.

Five Ways to Use MAC Fix +

MAC's Fix + is a water-based spray that contains vitamins and minerals as well as other ingrediants such as green tea, chamomile, and cucumber, and has a scent of Sugi. It is meant to hydrate and rejuvenate, leaving fresh, glowy, radiant skin. Priced at $18 for 3.4 fl oz, this mineral-infused spray does far more than just hydrate the skin. Here are five ways to use MAC Fix +:
  1. Get a glazed cheek. Spritz Fix + on a blush brush, particularly a stippling brush, and swirl over a mineralize blush. Lightly stipple onto the cheek. The Fix + enhances the shine and leaves the blush with a "glazed" effect on the cheek.
  2. Achieve a natural radiance. Spritz a couple of pumps of Fix + over freshly clean skin before applying moisturizer or face primer to help give skin a natural radiance that will shine through foundation.
  3. Get the most of your eyeshadows. Spray an eyeshadow brush with Fix + before applying eyeshadow or pigments to make the colors really pop and let the true color show. Use Fix + instead of water to have better staying power with your eyeshadows. This will also help you use less product since the color payoff will be better than if used by itself.
  4. Give the face a dewey glow. Spray your foundation brush with Fix + before applying liquid foundation to leave your skin with a dewey glow. The spray helps sheer out the foundation a bit to give that sultry "wet" look to the skin and letting your natural shine show through.
  5. Fake an airbrushed look. Once you've applied your foundation and powder, spray about two pumps from a distance on the face to get rid of the chalkiness most powders create and make your foundation look flawless and airbrushed.

MAC Too Fabulous Haul and Swatches

I really liked the Too Fabulous Collection; simple, easy and realistic. I only purchased three items from the collection, so clearly I practiced some major self control. lol

The Cremesheen Glasses, which are now being made permanent, are great everyday lipglosses that are more sheer in color and have a thinner consistency so they aren't as thick and sticky as MAC Lipglasses. The colors put out in this collection were very neutral and pretty and I got one of the repromoted colors Partial to Pink, a creamy light yellow-based pink.

The lip pencils were also must haves as they released colors that were completely different than those in the permanent collection. I only got Trimmed in Pink because I needed a bright pink that isn't as bold as the Magenta lip pencil but is brighter than the neutral pinks.

I wasn't planning on buying any of the Mineralize Blushes because I generally prefer matte blushes but one color in particularly caught my eye: Sun & Moon. It's a very pretty, and shimmery, swirl of bronzed apricot and warm pink. I'm actually really liking it, especially when used with the MAC 188 brush to lightly stipple it on.

MAC Riveting: True Babe Lipglass

Released on the same day as the Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation, MAC's Riveting collection offered bold blushes and an even bolder lip. I ended up only getting one product from the collection, True Babe Lipglass, because it stuck out more than any of the other Riveting products and I already have the bold lipstick Show Orchid, normally a PRO color.

Lipglass in True Babe is the definite standout in this collection. Creamy and opaque, this bright fuchsia lipgloss is a must have for any bold lip lover. It is the Lipglass version of Show Orchid Lipstick and the two are a match made in makeup heaven. Corny! lol. But true, they look perfect when worn on the lips together.

MAC's new foundation is full of hydration

MAC released a new foundation about a month ago, Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation, and this baby is super hydrating!

Here's what the product description claims on the MAC Website:
"A rich, luxurious compact foundation offering a creamy application for a flawless, medium-buildable, naturally revitalized, fully dimensional finish. Lightweight and silky to apply. Good for all skin types; particularly benefits dull and/or dry complexions. Provides super-hydrated, high-comfort wear and everyday SPF 15 sun protection."

I got the foundation in NC25 and I have been wearing it every day for two weeks and I am loving it. It is super creamy and blends beautifully. I tend to have very dry skin so this formula works great for me because it doesn't dry me out. The coolest thing about this foundation is that it is made up of 70 % water! That's pretty remarkable and will do wonders for any skin type. It doesn't go on cakey and it gives skin a great dewey glow. Plus, it comes in a compact making it convenient for touch ups on the go.

I've been using it with the MAC 187 brush and it works great when stippled on and then lightly blended out.

The foundation was released with a new brush, the 130 Short Duo Fibre Brush, but I decided to pass on getting it since it is ridiculously priced at $38 and is extremely small. I don't have the patience to use that small of a brush for foundation since it takes much more time to cover the entire face with and I usually get ready in a hurry. So this was a no-go for me. Although I hear it works wonders in blending out foundation and is able to get in every corner and hard to reach spots on the face. This gives much better results than if done with a bigger brush.

Have you tried the Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation yet? Or maybe the new 130 Brush? Share in a comment below!
